Sir Alex Ferguson has been the best manager of Manchester United and one of the best coaches in football, his time with the Red Devils is still remembered as the best era the club has ever experienced, because at that time United had a hegemony in the Premier League and always had great participations in Europe.
In addition to that during his 27 years the coach has been able to have players of international stature such as David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, among others who at the end of his career would also become legends, however, there was a player who could have been very well with the Red Devils, but Ferguson let him go.
In 2005 John Obi Mikel should have moved to Old Trafford, having been bought for a fee of 4 million from Lyn Oslo, but Mikel never made it to United, as confusion on the part of United and Chelsea made the transfer a problem for both teams.
In the end, Sir Alex Ferguson let Mikel go to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues offering to pay the £4m for the player and a fee of £12m to United to secure the services of the Nigerian midfielder, who arrived in London for the 2006 season; after almost 15 years John Obi Mikel admitted that he felt the whole transfer saga and the manager's decision to let him go was absurd.
After Chelsea paid the 4 million transfer fee, the midfielder had a great career with the London club, during his 11 years with the Blues he won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and one Champions League, certainly a successful career with Chelsea and there will always be the question of what might have been if he had stayed at United
