Many may have their eyes set on Ronaldo getting more game times after his recent issues with Erik Ten Hag but that does not seem to be the case, as there’s someone else with a starting shot ahead of the Portuguese captain. With the starting backline losing Raphaël Varane to injury, all focus switched to Manchester united ‘s captain Harry Maguire, who has barely featured under the new manager.

Maguire has come under heavy criticism in recent seasons with many unsure if he would ever find a way to become as integral as United had anticipated when they paid over 80 million euros to sign him in 2019. The signing of Erik Ten Hag as the new united manager seemed like the start of something new for Maguire but he has found game-time extremely hard under the tutelage of the Dutchman with only three Premier League appearances so far.

Club legend has turned the team down, declining to come to work with Erik ten Hag

A 60th-minute injury to Raphaël Varane seems to have opened up a spot for Maguire to find his way back into the starting lineup. Although he has competition for the spot, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones, fans reckon that he will be chosen ahead of the other two for several reasons. Ten Hag is expected to at least consider a Lisandro Maguire centreback pairing for the next couple of matches amongst a host of tweaking options to keep his team going as we edge closer to the World Cup.

Surely the United captain will be looking to force his way back into the red devils’ lineup, which will help him in securing a spot in England’s World cup team. Gareth Southgate will be expecting to see more of the Englishman in the coming weeks before the World Cup list is announced. Harry will surely expect that he will be considered first for the centreback slot ahead of others.

WILL MAGUIRE BE ABLE TO CONVINCE ERIK TEN HAG?

There is certainly room for that possibility with United expected to play six matches before the World cup starts and Harry Maguire showing Ten Hag everything, he wants to see from his centreback, then the chances a pretty decent for the club captain.
