No longer 49, the reason why Alejandro Garnacho changed his shirt number for the rest of the season

Just a few hours before Manchester United's game against Arsenal kicked off, the club announced the change of some players' shirts for the season, as well as presenting the new numbers of the signings, as we know that just a couple of days ago was the last chance to sign new reinforcements so now that they were officially presented, they could get their numbers for the rest of the campaign. 

One of the players who surprised with his decision to have a different jersey number was Alejandro Garnacho, as last season he occupied the No. 49 after being promoted from the academy, however, during the early summer, a rumour was spreading that was gaining momentum for several weeks, because while the Argentine was on holiday, the board of the red devils was going to make an important decision. 

Many fans had been enthusiastic about the season that the striker had had, because at his young age he was able to earn a place in the squad, which is not easy, so both the fans and the board were thinking of offering him the No.7 because as we know within the club that number represents something very big and only great players have worn it, so Garnacho looked to be the chosen one, as on several occasions the striker proclaimed himself an admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo, so one of his dreams was to wear that jersey.

However, the arrival of Mason Mount ruined all plans, as when he was officially presented, it was announced that the midfielder would wear number 7, leaving the Argentinian out of contention. 

New number for Garnacho

As already mentioned, Alejandro Garnacho had the illusions of changing his number for this season, however, not being able to get the No. 7 that once wore Cristiano Ronaldo, one of his greatest idols, decided to follow in his footsteps in a different way by choosing to wear the number 17 remembering that the Portuguese star began his career with that number in his national team, this shows that Garnacho will always want to be like Ronaldo.
