Manchester United were able to strengthen the midfield which was one of the main tasks facing the team at the start of the new season; the arrival of Mason Mount to the team after having reached an agreement for 60 million pounds, was the first signing of Erik Ten Hag during this transfer window, even so, the coach considers that he can further strengthen this area of the field.

Ten Hag's replacement options to replace the first-choice midfielders are Fred and McTominay, both players who played very few minutes last season. The coach has also informed them that he is thinking of selling them and that he will start listening to offers for both players, so his hopes of changing their situation are very low and they have not shown the ability to stay at the club.

On the one hand, the Brazilian player, has been with the club for five seasons now, since his arrival in 2018 for £53 million, he has not been able to consolidate himself in midfield and now that players like Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are in the same position his opportunities are more reduced, that's why Ten Hag would look to sell him and teams like Fulham or Saudi Arabia would be willing to buy him.

Now Scott McTominay, who has been with United for the last 6 seasons, is one of the players who is on the list of the main targets to leave the club, his value is in the region of 25 million euros so his sale could be of great help to increase the club's budget; however, although one would think that another signing would be sought, Ten Hag could make use of his young players, giving them a chance.

Young players making an impression at Ten Hag

Manchester United have at times opted for young players, now with the Dutch coach, no one's place is safe, so young stars Kobbie Mainoo and Hannibal Mejbrí, may see their chances grow this pre-season, where they could prove their abilities and earn a replacement midfield berth.
