Manchester United win their first game of the season against Liverpool

Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford to finally win their first game of the Premier League season after losing the first two games. Erik ten Hag’s team had an amazing performance tonight against our fiercest rivals to restore the players' and fans’ confidence in this new project. After tonight’s result, United go up to 14th place, while Klopp’s team goes down to 16th place.

Since the starting XI was announced, Erik ten Hag proved he had a plan after making four adjustments coming from the 4-0 defeat against Brentford. Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Fred were dropped from the team sheet, while Anthony Elanga, Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malacia, and Scott McTominay took their places.

The manager explained before the game that he benched Cristiano Ronaldo today because he needed energy on the front line in order to apply constant pressure on Liverpool’s defense. Rashford, Elanga, and Sancho proved him right all game long utilizing their speed to trouble the away defenders. They even linked up in the first goal scored by Jadon Sancho.

On the back line, Lisandro Martínez and Raphael Varane also proved to Erik ten Hag that they should be the centre-back partnership from now on.
