Manchester United summer targets are now available in January

Manchester United had a long list of summer targets, many of which failed to materialise as clubs and players played tricky games over United interest. Erik Ten Hag primary area of concern shortly after he signed for United was the midfield and they spent a large part of their summer chasing several top talent and eventually signed Casemiro from Real Madrid late in the window.

A key player they missed out on during the summer was Frenkie De Jong, who was a formerly player under Ten Hag  during their time at Ajax. De Jong was sought after by United from the very moment United were in talks to sign Erik Ten Hag as new manager but he outrightly insisted on stay at his dream club FC Barcelona despite the backslash he got from their fans about his wages situation.

The Dutch midfielder is now set to be available in the winter transfer window after Barca crashed out of the Champion League group stage following a 3 nil loss to FC Bayern Munich at Camp Nou and Inter trashing Viktoria Plzen in the other fixture. The result automatic put all of Barca's projected financial success into jeopardy after several economic leveler was used in the summer to save the club.

His fellow Dutchman, Memphis Depay is available in January and a second stint at Old Trafford could on the cards for the striker to rewrite his first underwhelming stint at United. Barca are reported desperate to cash in a few players with both De Jong and Depay placed on the list to help Xavi Hernandez’s team salvage the situation.

WILL TEN HAG FINALLY GET HIS MAN?

It is unclear how the transfer will unfold in January but one thing is certain as get closer to the winter window, Barcelona needs the cash as much as united might still need the player because the total embodies the Ten Hag style of play. Depay could be an added bonus if United decided against other attacking targets come January.
