By Harry Smith
The player who most divided opinions generates in Manchester United’s fan base is definitely Harry Maguire. People from England rate the 29-year-old centre-back as he is his fellow countryman, but on the other hand, people outside Britain don’t think that he is good enough to be playing for the biggest club in the world.
Not only does he play with Manchester United undeservedly, but he has been named the team captain for the last couple of years. But again, some people think he deserves it, while others believe he shouldn’t even be part of the squad. Either way, one thing is certain: he isn’t playing well at the moment.
How Manchester United’s board would reward Erik ten Hag after his winning streak
They talked a lot before the game, but Manchester United put them in their place
Last year, after the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford, there were reports suggesting that the Portuguese striker and other players were uncomfortable seeing someone like Maguire with the captain's armband, he had convinced a large number of players in the squad that someone else should be the captain.
This season, after Erik ten Hag decided to drop Harry Maguire from the starting XI, Bruno Fernandes was chosen by Erik ten Hag to wear the captain’s armband during the games. Ever since this decision was made, the team has been playing well and started to win matches, proving that the English defender was the problem.
After yesterday’s win against Arsenal, Bruno Fernandes congratulated Antony for scoring in his debut with Manchester United. The new signing replied with “Thank you, captain”. However, when Harry Maguire congratulated him, he only replied with emojis, with no words and not calling him captain. This shows how the players don't consider him the captain.
