As we have arrived at the transfer deadline day, a lot of clubs have been trying to close some signings. It is being reported by talkSPORT that West Ham made an approach to Manchester United for the transfer of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the club have rejected their offer after Erik ten Hag decided to keep the player this season.

The Manchester United manager confirmed it during yesterday’s press conference ahead of the next Premier League fixture away at Leicester City, where he said that the right-back will be staying: “Of course, Aaron is still in my plans. We will keep him and he will stay in. So this squad will go from September until the minimum, January”, he told the press.

Not signing Sergiño Dest might be the best decision for Manchester United

Despite saying that, it was pretty clear to everyone that he was trying to find a new right-back who could compete with Diogo Dalot this season since there were a lot of players linked with a potential move to Old Trafford these past few weeks of the transfer window. But after failing to sell Wan-Bissaka, the club wasn’t able to sign a replacement.

The full-back that was closer to signing with Manchester United was Sergiño Dest. Erik ten Hag knew him from their time together at Ajax, and FC Barcelona was trying to either loan him out or sell him since he didn’t feature in Xavi Hernandez’s plans. The player will sign with AC Milan today, but it was reported that the Dutch manager even called him some days ago.

The right-pack situation

After not signing anyone, the two right-backs of Manchester United this season will be Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka once again. Both of them have been competing for a place in the starting XI for two years now, with the Portuguese man taking the advantage this season. Next summer, the academy player Ethan Laird will come back from his loan at QPR and hopefully, will stay with the senior team.
