Ever since he was appointed as Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has told the club that his number one priority this summer transfer market was to sign Frenkie De Jong, who he already knows from their time together at Ajax, where they shocked the world in that iconic Champions League run in the 2018/19 season beating Real Madrid and Juventus.
This is why, over a month ago, the Red Devils made a bid to FC Barcelona for a fee of around £70 million, which was accepted by the Spanish side as they are desperate to sell players in order to solve their financial troubles. However, the player doesn’t want to leave his club because he still has years on his contract left and they owe him some differed wages.
An agreement is yet to be found with Adrien Rabiot and his mother
This striker is crazy to sign with Manchester United as soon as possible
Then, a couple weeks back, Chelsea joined the race and also asked Barça about Frenkie, and there were reports that the player would choose the Blues over a move to Old Trafford because they will play in this season’s UEFA Champions League, and United aren’t. in spite of that, the club has always remained hopeful to sign him.
Today it was reported by the journalist Ferran Martínez from ‘Mundo Deportivo’, that Manchester United have made a totally offensive move for the midfielder. They are confident of completing his signing next week by making him and the Catalunya side the best financial offer. Also, he says Erik ten Hag will meet face-to-face with De Jong in order to convince him.
There are only three weeks left of the transfer window being open, so Man United must be quick if they want to sign the 25-year-old. Also, the earlier he comes and starts training with the team, the better. Ten Hag really wants a new midfielder and De Jong would solve almost all of his former manager’s problems at the Theatre of Dreams.
