Luke Shaw believes Manchester United's impressive fitness levels in their win against Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final suggest the players just didn't give enough against Sevilla.
Erik ten Hag was angry and disappointed at the way United exited the Europa League against Sevilla on Thursday night, which meant an answer against Brighton was required, but the match promised to be a challenge.
Brighton enjoyed an excellent season and proved a difficult opponent throughout the match at Wembley. The Seagulls created their share of chances, although United also had their moments around the box without finding the net.
However, neither side could find a breakthrough and extra time soon followed, before penalties were finally called. The shootout progressed to sudden death and Victor Lindelof was the player to convert from the penalty spot to win the game.
He won it for us. We have practiced them a lot in training and Víctor has a beautiful technique. When he was stepping forward, he was sure that he would not fail. I think the fitness levels are good and maybe that shows that we didn't do enough on Thursday night. I think it was clear but we knew we had to bounce back and the competition the Europa League was so important to us and we lost it ourselves but obviously we also want the FA Cup and this was a great game against a good side
