Lisandro Martinez has grown tremendously into a ruthless defender for Erik Ten Hag from his time with the Dutch manager at Ajax where they dominated the Eredivisie for years before making the switch to Manchester in the summer to begin a new adventure.

At Manchester United this season, Martinez has been paired majorly with the experienced Raphael Varane and the duo has become the solid unit guarding Manchester United's rise to third position in the Premier League table. The pair have been quite a thorn for opposition attackers with about eight clean sheets in the league.

Before the World Cup campaign, Martinez had won over  Manchester United fans with a fierce playing style that earned him the nickname 'The butcher' from his Ajax days. His physicality is no different than experienced Premier League defender as he adapted seamlessly to the nature and demands of the league.

But his recent performance has been the best with his lack of concentration having cost Manchester United at crucial moments. A most famous lapse in concentration was against Arsenal at the Emirates when Nketiah flicked in the winner of the home team and an early goal at the hand of Leeds United was another sour moment for him.

What did the club legend say about Martinez?

In a recent punditry, former club captain and legend, Nemanja Vidic declared his huge respect for Lisandro Martinez. He revealed that he's been impressed by Martinez since he joined the club in the summer and is looking for more of his performance in the famous red and black colors of United.
