Manchester United have been embroiled all week with the goalkeeper issue, after signing Mason Mount, the next obvious position the manager needed to strengthen was goalkeeper, so the option of André Onana as the first choice goalkeeper has come up, however, the manager has reportedly informed that he would also be thinking of signing a back-up.

As we know, pre-season kicked off on Wednesday when United took on Leeds, during that game Ten Hag gave young players and players who don't get much playing time during the season a chance to prove that they deserve to earn a place in the team; with no first-choice goalkeeper, Ten Hag decided to start the game with 37-year-old veteran Tom Heaton, who was speculated to be given one last chance in his career.

Although he only played half time, the goalkeeper would have been comfortable with the opportunity and would have hopes of at least having a role in the team, however, unfortunately for him, the signing of André Onana is almost imminent, as the team has already agreed personal terms with the player and it is a matter of hours before it can be made official, besides that the coach would like the Cameroonian goalkeeper to join the pre-season tour so Heaton would not see many minutes either.

As if that wasn't enough, Ten Hag recently reported that he was looking for a back-up goalkeeper and because of Heaton's characteristics, he was immediately ruled out, so his time at Old Trafford could be coming to an end.

Japanese goalkeeper, Manchester United's option for Onana's replacement

Ten Hag would plan to sign a young goalkeeper, with whom he can make a project for the future, so he would be preparing an offer of 3 million pounds for the Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, which United has been following for more than 6 years, the player of American origin but Japanese descent, participates in the professional league in his country and although he is only 20 years old, he has been able to have several minutes with his team, so Ten Hag would be close to signing him
