Erik Ten Hag has been looking to reinforce certain areas of the pitch that did not work so well last season, although he has Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in defence, the coach is looking for another player who can bring different characteristics to the others and who can get minutes in other competitions.

Apart from that, one of the factors to add a new defender is the imminent departure of Harry Maguire, the British player whose days at the club are numbered, because Ten Hag considers that he no longer fits in his plans and his performance has not been good at all, which is why he was removed from the captaincy in the middle of last season, but there would also be another key factor.

And that would be the way the defender plays, as we already know Maguire is not one of the best players with ball control, it is one of his weaknesses, so Ten Hag would be looking for defensive players who are comfortable with the ball at their feet, who can have vision and play out from the bottom, so because of that Harry will have to start looking for a new destination.

The club have already informed him that he is not in their plans and are already looking to sell him, although no club has yet made an offer, United are hoping that by the end of the summer the defender will be on his way out.

Alex Disasi as his replacement

The 25-year-old Frenchman is in United's sights as they look to add a new defender, and the club are hoping to start talks with the Monaco player that could lead to a future deal; Disasi is the French club's lynchpin, having played every game in Ligue 1, so his experience at such a young age could help United a great deal.
