Manchester United have been looking for attacking players that fit Erik ten Hag’s system and philosophy that he wants to establish at Old Trafford. However, no forward is yet to be signed to this day, although we have seen some new players come in with the likes of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martínez.
The top target for the Dutch manager was his former player back at Ajax, but the high demands of the Eredivisie champions for the Brazilian made Manchester United back off from the deal to search for other alternatives. Today Sunday Mirror’s Simon Mullock reported that Cody Gakpo was added to the club’s wanted list, but in the last few hours a new name has been mentioned.
According to Tom Hopkinson, also from the Sunday Mirror, the ‘Red Devils’ have made a surprise enquiry for the ex-Manchester City forward Leroy Sané. The German is viewed as a great option, as he already knows the league for his time at the ‘Citizens’ where he became one of the best players in the league.
If the transfer of Leroy Sané to Manchester United ends up happening, he would be joining a selective list of footballers who have played for both Manchester clubs. The Bayern Munich winger played for the ‘Citizens’ for four years before leaving for the German giants in 2020. Some of the players who have done this are Peter Schmeichel, Andy Cole and Carlos Tevez.
