Manchester United have been very active during this transfer window, trying to add new reinforcements and although only one signing has been completed and one more is about to be finalised, the manager is still hopeful of getting the players that have been on his wish list.

However, Manchester City want to stand in our way. As we remember just a few days ago Guardiola was reportedly asking for an academy player in order to take him away from United and although everything points to the possibility of the young player leaving, the exchange of players between the two teams is not at all normal, due to the rivalry and competition that has always characterised the matches played.

Despite this, Guardiola would be looking to take a signing that Ten Hag has always wanted, Frankie de Jong is one of those players that the coach has been interested in him for a long time, the way he plays and how he develops on the field, are characteristics that the Dutchman has been looking for in a player, however, now he will have a complicated task to sign him.

If it was difficult to sign De Jong before, now it will be more so, as City have shown interest in signing the midfielder; for that reason Ten Hag would have to hurry with the signing if he wants to get him, because although his value is not cheap at all, what is true is that he would be an excellent addition for United.

The reason City are closing in on De Jong

Manchester City are keen to sign the FC Barcelona midfielder, as according to reports close to the Spanish side, Xavi would be considering an offer for Frankie de Jong if the transfer would include a swap deal for Bernardo Silva, as the Barcelona coach is a big fan of Silva, so Guardiola could beat United to the Dutch midfielder.
