It is no secret that Erik ten Hag was looking for a new right-back this summer in order to bring some competition for Diogo Dalot. This proved that even though, the manager preferred him over Aaron Wan-Bissaka, he still didn’t trust him to be Manchester United’s first-choice right-back this season.

After trying to sell Wan-Bissaka during the transfer window, only Crystal Palace and West Ham United approached the Red Devils with very poor offers. This made the manager’s job of signing a new right-back impossible, so he had no other choice but to keep the English and Portuguese men as his right-backs for the remaining of the year.

Diogo Dalot has started all of Manchester United’s first five games of the season and he has surprised everyone with his good performances on the pitch. The 23-year-old has become one of the best Premier League full-backs as he is the one who creates the most chances per game, most challenges won per game and no other full-back has made more assists than him so far.

Hopefully, Dalot keeps the momentum going and finally establishes himself as Manchester United’s first-choice right-back for years to come. If he continues his good form, then Erik ten Hag will stop looking for a new full-back in the Winter transfer window and will change his transfer plans.

A season of redemption

It hasn’t been easy for Diogo Dalot at Manchester United. Ever since he signed with the Red Devils in 2018, he has been loaned out to AC Milan and he came back only to be benched by Aaron Wan-Bissaka for two years. However, he never complained and just focused on working hard. Now he finally is getting his opportunity and is making the best out of it.
