The wait has been long, but everything indicates that the first reinforcement of Manchester United is very close to become official, as Mason Mount would be about to become a new Red Devils player as he has taken the final step to force Chelsea to lower the price of his signing.
Manchester United already sent a first offer to Chelsea, but the London board rejected the proposal as they expected to get up to 90 million euros, as they know United's tendency to pay high prices that have even become excessive. However, Mason Mount would have managed to get the Blues to lower their financial demands.
Mount has only one year left on his contract, so if he is not sold this summer he will leave next year at zero cost. In that sense, it seems that the board's plan was to drag out the negotiations and retain Mount to convince him to sign an extension during the season and thus avoid losing him for free, but Mount is clear.
But Mount is clear, he wants to play at Old Trafford next season and he wants to be a new Manchester United player, in fact he and the United board have already 100% agreed the personal terms of his contract and are just waiting for a transfer fee to be agreed with Chelsea.
Mason Mount has already informed Chelsea's board that he will not sign any contract extension with them, so now the Blues have reportedly lowered his price and are now hoping to get between €70 million and €75 million. However, Manchester United thinks that the offer they sent for him is a fair offer and it would be a matter of time before Mount becomes United's new signing.
