Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t think Harry Maguire is good enough

Earlier today it was reported by Adam Crafton from The Athletic that in February of this year when Manchester United were struggling in the season, some of the most experienced players approached the manager at the time Ralf Rangnick, and had a meeting at the club’s headquarters where they expressed their concerns about the situation.

The reporter said that Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, and Raphaël Varane were among the players that talked with the German manager. During the meeting, the 37-year-old striker told Rangnick that Harry Maguire should be demoted to the bench, as he believed that the former Leicester City centre-back was part of the problem.

The former interim manager didn’t like that Cristiano said something like that in their conversation at the back of Maguire, who wasn’t present in the meeting. The former Juventus player also asked him to adjust his system because he wanted to play as part of a two-man frontline like he had been doing with the Italian club in the last couple of years.

Although the Portugal captain was wrong in the way of delivering the message behind Harry Maguire’s back, he was also correct because the England defender was struggling in his performances but he wasn’t dropped to the bench just because of the captain’s armband. This is something that the fans have also been asking for several months.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s wish finally became true when Erik ten Hag didn’t hesitate to bench Harry Maguire this season in the last two fixtures after his poor performances on the field. However, what CR7 wasn’t expecting is that the Dutch manager also dropped him from the starting line-up. This comes to show the kind of manager Erik ten Hag is; someone who doesn’t care about your status and will only play with the players in good form.
