Manchester United, plunged into a sporting and institutional crisis, is evaluating obtaining financial resources with the sale of four members of Erik ten Hag's squad. According to Teamtalk, those targeted are: Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho. In all cases, they appeal to be released in the transfer process that opens in January.
With them, Manchester United hopes to raise no less than 220 million pounds and, in this way, balance part of its finances, which were greatly affected by being left without participation in European competitions for the rest of the season. The Red Devils have not had the best start to the season and could do with making changes to their squad this winter, although it won't be easy after so much spending over the summer, with high-profile signings such as André Onana, Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat have not yet achieved the desired impact.
According to Romano, Man Utd's main target for now is a defender, although it could also be that Erik Ten Hag gets the opportunity to make changes to his midfield and attack. However, it seems that these positions are not so clear, and signing a new striker in particular will probably depend on whether Martial leaves Old Trafford or not, according to Romano.
“There have been reports that Ten Hag wants three signings: a centre-back, a midfielder and a forward,” Romano said. “My information about a defender has been around for some time, it's nothing new. The midfield is not guaranteed yet, and the same for the striker, which will largely depend on whether Anthony Martial leaves or not.”
It remains to be seen whether MUFC would easily find suitors for Martial, who has been out of form for some time now, and many fans are likely to be glad to see the Frenchman's back if he ends up moving on. Manchester United's plans to strengthen their forward line this January will likely depend on whether or not they are able to sell Anthony Martial, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
