Just a couple of hours after Ajax turned down the latest €90 million proposal from Manchester United for the transfer of Antony Santos, the young 22-year-old winger decided to speak with Fabrizio Romano in an exclusive interview where he could explain his point of view on what is going on. Here is some of what he said exclusively to Fabrizio Romano.

“Since February of this year, my agents came to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club to face a new challenge and that some interested clubs would arrive and with them, certainly a great offer. In June I interrupted my vacation and came personally to inform the managers of Ajax, including my new coach, about my wish to leave and that they should consider this possibility”, via Fabrizio Romano.

The Brazilian said that during the summer Ajax offered him a contract renewal, but he denied it because he only wanted to leave. “Today, in a meeting with the club, I expressed my old interest in leaving, only this time with a considerable offer on the table. Others had already arrived! Ajax refused with the argument that they only have five days to replace me”, via Fabrizio Romano.

Antony is asking for his club to be reasonable: “I’m not asking Ajax to release me, I’m asking Ajax to sell me with the highest bid ever made for an Eredivisie player. I’ve been insisting on this theme since February so that the club could rebuild the team with peace of mind. People need to listen to me and understand that my motivation moves me towards happiness. I need to continue performing at a high level”, via Fabrizio Romano.

Your move, Ajax

Antony Santos also asked Ajax fans to understand him and said he is grateful to the club and its fans for everything they gave to him during his time at Amsterdam. Now it is time for the current Eredivisie champions’ board to decide whether they want to keep the player against his will or let him go for a €90 million record fee.
