Erik ten Hag had some bad news to announce today during his press conference ahead of Manchester United’s next Premier League fixture away from home against Southampton tomorrow at St Marry’s Stadium. The Dutch manager confirmed that Antony Martial will not be available for the game due to an injury.

“You will see changes tomorrow. Casemiro is fit, he did all the training sessions. Anthony Martial came out with a problem with his Achilles. I hope he will be available for the next game”. The former Ajax coach only said it was a problem and expects him to be back for the Leicester City match, so hopefully, it isn’t a serious injury.

Anthony Martial had an amazing pre-season under Erik ten Hag. While Cristiano Ronaldo was absent looking for a new club, Martial was having great performances as the team’s main striker. He even impressed Erik ten Hag, who was expecting to start him in the first game of the season against Brighton, but he also got injured.

The French striker missed the first two games of the campaign, which obligated ten Hag to change his tactics. However, he finally recovered before the Liverpool match. Even though he didn’t start, the manager subbed him in at half-time before Cristiano Ronaldo. Martial played very well and even got himself an assist in Rashford’s goal.

Worst timing

Anthony Martial’s injury problems are making things difficult for Erik ten Hag at the start of the season. He has proven that he prefers Martial over Ronaldo at the moment and the Portuguese striker is still looking for his way out of the club. For that reason signings are needed as soon as possible, whether it is Antony or Memphis Depay, someone has to be signed this week.
