Yesterday, Antony wasn’t included in the list of players selected by Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder, to face Sparta Rotterdam in their third fixture in the Eredivisie. This was a consequence of the player refusing to take part in their last two training session after the club turned down an €80 million bid made for him last week.

The Dutch manager explained to ESPN before the match that he had a good conversation with Antony and realized he wasn’t fully focused in the match so he had to drop him at the last minute since he only wants players in his squad that are 100% focused on Ajax. after the game, he said that he asked the club to not sell the player.

Today, Schreuder was asked again if he will need a replacement for Antony “I am assuming Antony will stay. If we want to win the league, if we want to perform in the Champions League, then we should keep him. We know things are going on but I want him to stay. We are Ajax, we are in the Champions League”.

However, it is being reported by Gerjan Hamstelaar that Ajax and Hakim Ziyech had a meeting last night in which the Moroccan told them that he would love to return to Amsterdam as he doesn’t feature in Chelsea’s manager plans. The Dutch club is reportedly just waiting for the Antony situation to be resolved as soon as possible to make a move for Ziyech if the Brazilian decides to leave.

He will be replacing his former replacement

Funny enough, Ajax signed Antony back in 2020 when Hakim Ziyech left the Amsterdam club for Chelsea. The 22-year-old Brazilian was their new investment for the future as Ziyech was ready for a new chapter in his career. Now, the 29-year-old winger would be replacing Antony if he ends up leaving for Manchester United.
