In the Premier League the owners are mostly from other countries, only five teams are owned by British owners. The American Glazers are the owners of the club, it was Malcolm Glazer, who in 2003 took over the club's shares, until 2005 when he completed all of them. He paid £795 million in total for the club.

That was until 2014 when Malcolm passed away, leaving the estate to his wife, Linda, and the businessman's six children. Since then the club has been run by the whole family, and they also own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL team. Ownership of both franchises positions them as one of the most powerful families in sports.

The family of owners recently made it known that they are willing to listen to offers for the club. They would ask for an offer in the region of £5000 millions for a minority stake in the team. Manchester United is one of the top five teams in terms of turnover year after year.

From day one there was a bad response from fan groups, who did not like the takeover by the American owners. For the fans there will never be a good relationship with the owners of the club, despite the fact that they have achieved important titles during their sporting management.

“Love United, hate the Glazers”

Manchester United fans were upset that the Glazer family used the team to generate their own revenue. Fans demonstrated outside Old Trafford with banners of hatred for the owners. It is certainly a club that is demanding in every way.
