New challenges have presented themselves at Old Trafford with an improved squad, but more importantly, the pace of the team's improvement has been mostly progressive. The players have an energy not seen in previous seasons with other squads.
Erik ten Hag has brought discipline to the team, he has sent out players who were benchmarks to a secondary role, he did it with Cristiano Ronaldo who sought his exit from the club, he has done it with the English central defender, Harry Maguire, who has been the target of a lot of criticism. Both players have a very reduced role in minutes.

Manchester United achieved first goal of the season
Harry Maguire has made three starts for the team, missing all three, and when he is on the pitch is when the Red Devils have conceded the most goals. No doubt the fact that he is the most expensive defender in Man Utd's history has affected him, and has placed demands on him.
Meanwhile, the French defender who is finding a better version of himself, Raphael Varane, is adapting to the manager's system of play, but a main reason why he has felt more comfortable in the team is that his teammate has helped him improve. With them the team is at its best defending and tidiest when Man Utd play, the Manchester derby was the exception.
The player has been a key part of the club's positive run of form and defeats, one of the club's non-mainline signings who has won over the fans in a short space of time. The 24-year-old Argentinian supports Manchester United's academy youngsters, has been an example of arriving with character at the club. Maguire costing almost twice as much to the team has failed to do so in three seasons.
