Manchester United are looking to bolster their left-back options and have identified Álvaro Carreras as a prime target. The club holds a buy-back clause for the talented Spaniard, who left Old Trafford for Benfica in 2024. However, the Red Devils will face stiff competition from Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The recent appointment of Rubén Amorim as manager has only intensified United's interest in Carreras. The Portuguese coach, who previously managed Sporting CP, is a big admirer of the young full-back and believes he could be a valuable asset to his squad.
Carreras spent several years in the Manchester United academy, impressing with his attacking flair and defensive solidity. His departure for Benfica was seen as a surprise at the time, but the Red Devils have always maintained a keen interest in his development.
With Real Madrid and Barcelona also in the hunt for Carreras, Manchester United will need to pull out all the stops to secure his signature. Both Spanish clubs are in need of a left-back and see Carreras as an ideal candidate to fill the void.
United's buy-back clause gives them a significant advantage in the race for Carreras. However, the 20 million euro fee could still prove to be a stumbling block, particularly if Real Madrid or Barcelona are willing to offer a higher price.
Carreras is widely regarded as one of the most promising young left-backs in European football. His ability to both defend and attack makes him a highly sought-after commodity. If United can secure his signature, they will be adding a talented and versatile player to their squad.
