Erik ten Hag has reiterated Manchester United players need to maintain discipline off the pitch as well as on it. Marcus Rashford was fined two weeks' wages of £650,000 and dropped for the FA Cup fourth round win at Newport County on Sunday after a boozy midweek jaunt to Belfast last week. Rashford told United he had been out on Wednesday night but it transpired he was socialising on Thursday night and Friday morning.

With PSG interested, Marcus Rashford surprises with latest Man United decision

United were due in for a training session on Friday after a day off on Thursday. The 26-year-old trained at United's Carrington training complex on Wednesday morning and flew to Belfast later that day to visit his friend and former United youth-teamer, RoShaun Williams, who has just signed for Larne. Ten Hag held discussions with Rashford and his brother and adviser, Dwaine Maynard, at Carrington on Monday and the winger is available for selection for the Premier League fixture away to Wolves on Thursday evening.

In a statement issued on Monday night, United said: “Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed.” Ten Hag repeated that at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday. "So he has taken responsibility and for the rest, it's an internal matter. Case closed," Ten Hag said.

"It's nothing to do with a lack of respect but as I said, let's focus on the game, let's move on. The statement is clear and we have to focus on winning football games. "Nothing to do with discipline with me but in football, you need discipline and that is on the pitch but also off the pitch. There is a line between, when every player, every professional knows this, what is required. "We have to focus on winning football games and that's well that matters and every top professional knows what is required."

Rio Ferdinand assures that Rasmus Hojlund is not Manchester United's problem

Rashford stats

Rashford has scored in his last two Premier League appearances against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham but he only has four club goals this season. He had scored 21 by this stage last year. Despite his struggles on the pitch and off-the-pitch issues, Ten Hag is confident Rashford is developing a promising partnership with Rasmus Hojlund. "The last two Premier League games: two goals, an assist. "There is a developing, strong bond between Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford and we want to continue that process."
