Manchester United are facing a serious goal-scoring problem this season. Despite creating a significant number of big chances, the Red Devils have been unable to convert them into goals with any consistency. According to Opta, United have only managed to convert 12.24% of their big chances this season, a shockingly low figure.
The bulk of these missed opportunities can be attributed to the club's strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Both players have struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis, leading to frustration among fans and pundits alike.
A closer look at the statistics reveals a concerning trend. While United have created numerous chances, the quality of those chances has often been high. However, the team's strikers have consistently failed to make the most of them. Whether it's poor finishing, a lack of composure in front of goal, or simply bad luck, the end result has been the same: missed opportunities and dropped points.
The inability to convert chances into goals is a major concern for Manchester United. It suggests that the team is lacking a clinical finisher who can be relied upon to score goals on a consistent basis. This has had a direct impact on the team's results, as they have dropped points in a number of matches that they should have won.
Furthermore, the poor finishing record of Hojlund and Zirkzee raises questions about their long-term futures at the club. Both players were brought in with high expectations, but they have failed to live up to the hype.
To address their goal-scoring problems, Manchester United may need to consider a number of options:
