Napoli's pursuit of Manchester United's young star, Alejandro Garnacho, came to an end this summer. Despite making a significant offer, the Italian club were unable to secure the Argentine's signature. Napoli's sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has revealed that the primary reason for the failed transfer was the substantial wage demands of the player.
Manna explained that while Napoli were keen to bring Garnacho to the club, they were unable to meet the player's wage demands. "We like Alejandro Garnacho a lot, and we made a very important offer to Manchester United," said Manna. "However, to leave the Premier League, he wanted to be financially satisfied, and we didn't think that salary was fair compared to our other players."
The wage demands of Premier League players are often significantly higher than those of players in other European leagues. Napoli, while a successful club, is not one of the richest in Europe. As a result, the club was unable to match the wages that Garnacho was seeking.
Garnacho's potential departure would have been a significant blow to Napoli's ambitions. The Argentine winger has been one of the most exciting young talents in European football and would have been a valuable addition to the Napoli squad.
With a move to Napoli off the table, Garnacho will now be looking to establish himself as a regular first-team player at Manchester United. The young winger has a bright future ahead of him and is expected to play a key role in the club's plans for the coming seasons.
