Lisandro Martínez has been a revelation since joining Manchester United from Ajax in 2022, but his time at Old Trafford has been marred by a series of persistent injuries. The Argentine defender has now suffered his fifth significant injury in just two years at the club.
Martínez's injury woes began in April 2023 when he suffered a metatarsal fracture, sidelining him for over two months. Just a few months later, he was forced to undergo surgery on his foot, ruling him out for another three months. In February 2024, a knee injury kept him sidelined for nearly two months. And most recently, a muscle strain kept him out for a month.
In total, Martínez has missed over 260 days of action due to injury since joining United. This is a significant number, especially considering that he had only suffered four injuries in his entire career before moving to England.
These constant setbacks have undoubtedly taken a toll on Martínez both physically and mentally. The defender has shown incredible resilience in returning from each injury, but the frequency of his problems is a major concern.
For Manchester United, Martínez's injury problems have been a significant blow. The Argentine has been a key player for the club, and his absence has been keenly felt. The team has struggled to maintain consistency in his absence, and the manager has had to constantly shuffle his backline.
The latest injury to Martínez is a setback for both the player and the club. It remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined, but it is clear that Manchester United need to find a way to keep him fit. The club's medical staff will need to work closely with Martínez to identify the root cause of his injury problems and develop a long-term plan to prevent future recurrences.
