Manchester United are reportedly preparing a mammoth bid of over €100 million to sign Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez. The Argentine has been in sensational form this season, catching the eye of some of Europe's biggest clubs.
Álvarez's current deal with Atlético Madrid sees him earn around €7 million per year. However, if he were to move to Old Trafford, he would be in line for a significant pay rise. Sources suggest that United would be prepared to offer the Argentine a salary of at least €10 million per year to entice him to join the club.
Manchester United have been on the lookout for a new striker for some time, and Álvarez fits the profile of player they are looking for. The Argentine is a prolific goalscorer with excellent technical ability and a strong work ethic. He would be a valuable addition to Erik ten Hag's squad.
Atlético Madrid are reluctant to lose one of their star players, but they may be tempted to sell if Manchester United meet their valuation. The Spanish club are in need of funds to reinvest in their squad and a €100 million fee for Álvarez would go a long way towards balancing the books.
It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will be successful in their pursuit of Álvarez. The Argentine is happy at Atlético Madrid and is in no rush to leave the club. However, the prospect of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and earning a significantly higher salary could be tempting.
