Arsenal's pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has taken a new twist, as it emerges that the Slovenian forward once rejected a move to their Premier League rivals, Manchester United.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a top target for Mikel Arteta's side, who are in need of a clinical finisher to maintain their Premier League title challenge. Sesko's impressive performances in the Bundesliga have caught the eye of several top European clubs, with Arsenal believed to be leading the race for his signature.

Approaches to Manchester

However, this is not the first time a Premier League giant has shown interest in the young striker. In 2023, Manchester United were keen to sign Sesko, but the Slovenian opted for a move to RB Leipzig instead. At the time, Sesko explained that he felt Leipzig's playing style was a better fit for him, as it was similar to the football he had been accustomed to at his former club, Red Bull Salzburg.

"For me, it was very important to go to a place where a similar style of football is played," Sesko said. "I already knew what I had to do and didn't have to go through a whole learning process again."

Despite his decision to join Leipzig, Sesko's contract included a clause that would allow him to leave the club for a fee of around £60 million in the summer of 2025. This has alerted Arsenal, who are now confident of securing his signature.
