The transfer history of Manchester United in the past decade is well known around football, and it is safe to say United have become somewhat of a laughingstock in the transfer market. Manchester United have had the motto of throwing money against the wall hoping it will stick and although it was a wrong decision in the past, the financial repercussions are not as high as they are currently. Since COVID, the finances at United have taken a hit, and the lack of success at the club has started taking its toll on the revenue numbers. The margin of error at United is much lower currently opposed to what it used to be, yet United have not realized that.

The summer of 2022 was one of the most important in a very long time for Manchester United, as they were coming off their worst season in Premier League history. The club also lost many players for free as their contracts expired, which meant United had to attack the market wisely. However, the word wise does not exist at Manchester United, and they went back to their motto of throwing money at it.

The club started the summer with signing Lisandro Martinez, then Malacia, and Eriksen. All signings were made before the clubs first game of the season. The club lost two games in a row to start the season and then panic mode set in. United would pay 60 million pounds for Casemiro, and then 82 million pounds for Antony. The latter has shown himself to be one of the worst signings in Premier League history.
