When Manchester United splashed out a significant sum to secure the signature of Real Madrid's defensive midfield stalwart, Casemiro, it was seen as a marquee signing designed to shore up a midfield that had been notoriously porous in recent years. However, the Brazilian's move to Old Trafford has turned out to be far from the success that was anticipated.
The appointment of Rubén Amorim as Manchester United's new manager further complicated matters for Casemiro. Amorim, known for his preference for a more possession-oriented and technically gifted midfield, found Casemiro's more defensive-minded approach to be less than ideal. As a result, the Brazilian found himself increasingly on the fringes of the first team.
With Casemiro's value having depreciated significantly since his arrival, Manchester United are now facing a significant financial dilemma. The club is reportedly willing to accept a loss of £30 million on the player, highlighting just how unsuccessful his spell at Old Trafford has been.
Casemiro's move to Manchester United was a gamble that ultimately didn't pay off. A combination of factors, including a poor adaptation to the Premier League, a change in managerial style, and injury setbacks, have contributed to his downfall. As the club looks to move on from this failed experiment, it is clear that significant changes are needed if they are to return to the top of English football.
