Erik ten Hag admits Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has been "struggling" with injury issues since August. Mount joined United from Chelsea for £60million in the summer but he has been sidelined since November 11 with a calf problem and last started a Premier League game on October 7.

The 25-year-old sustained a hamstring injury in the second game of the season at Tottenham and missed the next four matches. Mount suffered a calf injury in training in November but resumed outdoor training in late December and Ten Hag hoped to have him back in January.
However, Mount has resorted to indoor training and could miss the majority of United's fixtures in February. The England international did not start in any of Chelsea's last 18 matches of the 2022-23 campaign due to a pubis injury and he has started nine games in the last year, completing 90 minutes only once.
"He was struggling from the second game of the season," Ten Hag said. "He returned for a period and then picked up another injury, so of course that’s not great. "That is very frustrating for him and I really feel for him. I really want to be there for him because he had such high expectations and I had high expectations.

"I am sure he is a very good player for us. But, first of all, what’s now important is we have to do it very secure to get him fit. Secure in the process, step by step, don’t force it and then hopefully by the end of the season he can stay fit and fight his way into the team, or at least play a role in his team. "Absolutely, I expect him to return (before the end of the season)."
