The Argentine international, who joined Manchester United from Ajax in 2022 at the behest of then-manager Erik ten Hag, has quickly established himself as a key player at Old Trafford. His standout performance in the recent Manchester derby, where he provided the assist for Amad Diallo's winning goal, has only served to increase his reputation.

A Ten Hag favourite

Ten Hag was keen to reunite with Martínez at United, having worked with the defender during his time at Ajax. The Dutch manager saw Martínez as the ideal player to bring his possession-based style of play to the Premier League.

The transfer fee of £50 million made Martínez one of the most expensive defenders in United's history. However, the Argentine has more than justified his price tag with his consistently impressive performances.

A defensive rock

Martínez has been a rock at the back for United. His ability to read the game, his excellent tackling technique, and his composure on the ball have made him a fan favourite.

His performance in the Manchester derby was a perfect example of his all-round ability. Martínez was dominant in the air, broke up play with ease, and capped off a fine display with a perfectly weighted pass to set up Diallo's winning goal.

Real Madrid interest

Martinez's impressive form has not gone unnoticed by Europe's elite clubs. Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing the Argentine defender, who is seen as the ideal long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos.

The Spanish giants are prepared to offer a significant fee for Martínez, who is under contract at United until 2027. However, United are reluctant to sell one of their most important players.

The future

It remains to be seen whether Martínez will stay at United or move to Real Madrid. One thing is for sure, the Argentine defender is one of the most talented young defenders in the world and he has a bright future ahead of him.
