Manchester United set to go head to head with Arsenal for a Spanish midfielder

It wouldn’t be a transfer window if Premier League rivals did not go head-to-head for signings. Who remembers Arsenal vs Chelsea last season for Mykhailo Mudryk, which saw Chelsea hijack the Ukrainian winger from their London rivals. Arsenal is once again in a battle with a Premier League rival for one of their premier targets and this time their battle is with Manchester United.

The Red Devils and the Gunners are both in the market for a midfielder and what has become quite common is the fact that Mikel Arteta and Erik Ten Hag have very similar targets in the transfer market. Both clubs had strong interest in the services of both Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez. The former would join Arsenal and the latter would go on to join United. Delcan Rice is another player the clubs had shared a strong interest in, but Rice would choose Arsenal as his next club. Amadou Onana is another midfielder the clubs will go to battle for in the summer.

The current battle between the two historic English clubs is over a Spanish midfielder. According to journalist Dean Jones, Manchester United are set to give Arsenal a battle over the services of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The midfielder has been on Arsenal’s radar for quite some time but United have now set their radar on him.

United’s need for a midfielder has been quite evident, especially a number six as they look to find the perfect partner for Kobbie Mainoo. Zubimendi having a release clause can be viewed as positive for United there is a set price for the Spanish midfielder and there is no need for a bidding war. The release clause for Zubimendi is set at 60 million Euros.

Martin Zubimendi’s refusal to leave Real Sociedad

Although a release clause is a positive for United, a release clause means nothing if the player does not want to leave his club, and that is the current stance of Zubimendi. The Spaniard feels reluctant to leave the club he grew up in. Zubimendi said “I have never planned to leave Real Sociedad, I always say that. I love life here, at home. I’m so happy here.”
