Manchester United have sent young striker Joe Hugill out on loan to League Two side Carlisle United for the remainder of the season. The 21-year-old, who underwent a medical with the Cumbrians on Friday, will spend the rest of the campaign at Brunton Park as he seeks to gain valuable first-team experience and rediscover his scoring touch.
Hugill joins a Carlisle side currently languishing at the bottom of the English Football League, seven points adrift of safety as they battle to avoid relegation to the National League. This move represents a significant challenge for the young forward, who will be expected to play a crucial role in helping the Cumbrians climb the table.
Hugill spent the first half of the season with League One side Wigan Athletic, where he enjoyed a promising start, scoring five goals in 18 appearances. However, his playing time diminished significantly towards the end of his spell at the DW Stadium.
Carlisle head coach Mike Williamson expressed his delight at securing Hugill's signature, stating: "We are delighted to have been able to bring Joe in. He’s somebody who we have been pursuing for a while. He gives us pace and power, and he’ll bring another dimension to our play. He’s got goals in him, so we’re delighted he’s chosen to come to us."
This loan move provides Hugill with a valuable opportunity to test himself in a competitive environment and gain vital first-team experience. He will be hoping to rediscover his scoring touch and make a significant contribution to Carlisle's fight for survival.
