Napoli's star striker Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to Manchester United, but the Nigerian's hefty price tag could prove to be a stumbling block for the Red Devils.
The Nigerian international has become one of the most sought-after strikers in European football following his impressive performances for Napoli. His blistering pace, clinical finishing, and aerial ability have made him a nightmare for defenders.
Osimhen signed a new contract with Napoli in 2023 that reportedly sees him earn around €10 million per year. However, with his stock continuing to rise, it is believed that the Nigerian's wage demands have increased significantly. Some reports suggest that Osimhen is now seeking a salary of at least €20 million per year to commit his long-term future to a new club.
Manchester United are known for their financial muscle, but even they may struggle to meet Osimhen's demands. The club has already invested heavily in their squad in recent years, and adding another high-earner to their wage bill could have significant implications for their Financial Fair Play compliance.
In addition to Osimhen's wages, Manchester United would also have to pay a substantial transfer fee to Napoli. The Italian club are likely to demand a premium for their star striker, and it could take a world-record bid to prise him away from the San Paolo.
The Red Devils will also need to consider the impact that signing Osimhen would have on the rest of their squad. The Nigerian would undoubtedly become the focal point of the attack, but it could limit the opportunities for other players like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
While Victor Osimhen would undoubtedly be a fantastic addition to the Manchester United squad, it remains to be seen whether the club can afford to meet his demands. The Nigerian's price tag, both in terms of wages and transfer fee, is likely to be prohibitive for many clubs, including United.
