Manchester United have reportedly tabled a huge offer for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, but the Spanish club have firmly rejected the proposal.
Sources in Spain have suggested that United were prepared to offer as much as £120 million for the Argentine forward. However, Atlético have no intention of selling one of their most prized assets.
Álvarez joined Atlético from Manchester City last summer for a fee of €75 million plus add-ons. Since then, the Argentine has been a revelation at the Wanda Metropolitano, scoring 17 goals in 34 appearances. His performances have made him a key player for Diego Simeone and a fan favorite.
There are several reasons why Atlético are unwilling to sell Álvarez. Firstly, the club sees the Argentine as a long-term project and believes that he can develop into one of the best strikers in the world. Secondly, Álvarez has quickly become a fan favorite, and selling him would be a huge blow to the club's supporters. Finally, Atlético are in a strong financial position and do not need to sell their best players.
Manchester United have been on the lookout for a new striker for some time, and Álvarez fits the profile of player they are looking for. The Argentine's pace, power, and goal-scoring ability would make him a valuable addition to Rúben Amorim's squad.
However, the Red Devils' interest in Álvarez has been met with a firm rejection from Atlético. The Spanish club are determined to keep hold of the Argentine and have made it clear that he is not for sale.
It seems unlikely that Álvarez will be leaving Atlético anytime soon. The Argentine is happy in Madrid and the club is equally happy with him. However, if Manchester United were to come back with an even higher offer, it would be difficult for Atlético to resist.
