Paul Scholes, one of Manchester United's most iconic midfielders, has left an indelible mark on the club's history. With a career brimming with success and an unparalleled footballing vision, his opinions on the Red Devils are always eagerly anticipated.
In a recent appearance on The Overlap, Scholes didn't mince his words when revealing who he believes was the worst signing in Manchester United's history. His choice was unequivocal: Mark Bosnich.
Mark Bosnich arrived at Old Trafford in 1999 with the daunting task of replacing the legendary Peter Schmeichel. However, his time at the club was marred by inconsistency and a perceived lack of professionalism, according to Scholes.
"I thought he was a good goalkeeper at Aston Villa, Mark," Scholes said. "He came to us and he was very unprofessional. Honestly, it was ridiculous. In shooting practice, normally you get about 15 or 20 shots. After three shots, he was knackered and asking for someone else to come in goal."
The Englishman was even more critical when discussing Bosnich's footwork: "He couldn't kick a football. I've never seen anything like it. We played Everton away in the first game of the season and none of us realised he couldn't get the ball past the halfway line."
Scholes' comments highlight the disappointing nature of the Bosnich signing. Despite his experience and reputation, the Australian failed to adapt to the demands of Manchester United and his shortcomings became apparent very quickly.
