Manchester United legend Gary Neville has expressed his disappointment over the club's decision to loan out Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa. The former right-back believes that the England international still has a lot to offer at Old Trafford.

Speaking on his podcast, Neville said, "It's a sad day. I feel a tinge of sadness thinking of Marcus Rashford as an eight, nine-year-old Manchester United academy player given a big contract a couple of years ago having scored 30 goals and being right at the top of his game on and off the pitch."

Amorim's efforts

Neville also criticized the club's management of Rashford, particularly the comments made by manager Ruben Amorim. "Some of the statements from Ruben Amorim have been brutal. He's only been with him five or six weeks and there is a stain on his character. He needs to get out, he needs the freedom away from Old Trafford," Neville added.

Despite his concerns, Neville believes that the move to Aston Villa could be beneficial for Rashford. "He's going to a far better team, he's going to a coach who is world class which is a real opportunity for him," Neville said. "The most important thing for him is that I think he will be playing under a world-class coach. What he needs is instruction, he needs structure and direction and discipline in his game."

The belief in Unai Emery

Neville believes that Emery can provide Rashford with the guidance he needs to rediscover his best form. "Unai Emery will do that. He's an absolutely amazing coach and he's exactly what Marcus Rashford needs. What he's got to do is buy into it," Neville added.
