Wilfried Zaha, once a highly-rated prospect signed by Sir Alex Ferguson himself, is on the verge of a shock loan move to MLS side Charlotte FC. The 32-year-old winger, who joined Manchester United in a £15m deal in 2013, is set to link up with former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith in the United States.

Former Manchester United winger to join MLS club

Zaha's time at Old Trafford was brief but memorable. Signed as a promising young talent, he made just four appearances for the club before being loaned back to Crystal Palace. Sir Alex Ferguson, who signed Zaha in the final days of his illustrious managerial career, spoke highly of the young winger at the time, stating: "We like to sign players with potential. We develop players and that's been proven many times. Hopefully the boy enjoys it here."."

Zaha ultimately returned to Crystal Palace on a permanent deal for a modest fee, where he blossomed into one of the Premier League's most exciting attacking talents. He enjoyed a successful career with the Eagles, scoring 90 goals and providing 52 assists in 458 appearances.

Following a successful spell with Galatasaray, where he won the Turkish title, Zaha joined Lyon on loan this season. However, his time in France has been underwhelming, with the winger struggling to find his best form.

Zaha's journey takes another twist: MLS beckons

Now, according to reports, Charlotte FC are on the verge of securing Zaha on loan. A unique MLS rule allows clubs to sign players who have already represented two other clubs in the same season, opening the door for this potential move. Dean Smith, who managed Zaha during his time at Aston Villa, is reportedly keen to bring the experienced winger to the United States.

This unexpected move could be a fresh start for Zaha, who will be hoping to rediscover his best form in a new environment. While his time at Manchester United may not have lived up to expectations, Zaha has undoubtedly proven his quality throughout his career.
