Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged manager Rúben Amorim to offer former midfielder Paul Pogba the chance to train with the first team. The Frenchman, who left Old Trafford on a free transfer last summer, is currently without a club.
Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand said: "I would say to Pogba: 'Come and train with us, let me see what you've got.' I would do it. I would have done it already."
Ferdinand believes that allowing Pogba to train with the squad would benefit both the player and the club. "It would keep him fit, it would keep him around the squad, and it might even inspire the younger players," he said.
Pogba's departure from Manchester United last summer was a controversial one. The Frenchman had failed to live up to his potential during his second spell at the club, and his relationship with the fans had soured. However, Ferdinand believes that Pogba still has something to offer.
The idea of Pogba returning to Manchester United, even on a temporary basis, has sparked debate among fans. Some believe that the Frenchman could still be a valuable asset to the team, while others are skeptical about his commitment to the club.
There are several potential benefits for Manchester United if they were to allow Pogba to train with the squad. Firstly, it would give Pogba the opportunity to maintain his fitness and keep his options open for a future move. Secondly, it could provide a boost to the morale of the squad, as Pogba is a popular figure among his former teammates. Finally, it would give Amorim the chance to assess Pogba's fitness and determine whether he would be a good fit for his team.
