However, the contest will come too soon for both Tyrell Malacia and Mason Mount, who are still recovering from knee and calf injuries respectively.

He is available for selection and it would be no surprise to see him immediately reinstated to the starting line-up at Altay Bayindir's expense. As for the back-four, Ten Hag could name the same quartet that started the win over Newport, with Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw among those who returned to the starting line-up at Rodney Parade. However, Harry Maguire stepped off the bench late on and will be pushing for a start after overcoming a groin injury.

Maguire, up until sustaining the injury in mid-December, had been an ever-present figure since the start of October, producing a series of accomplished performances. He could take the place of Raphael Varane and partner Martinez in the heart of the defence. It would be no surprise to see Ten Hag stick with the same midfield trio that started the weekend's victory, with Casemiro handed a first Premier League outing since October 7. He is likely to once again join forces with Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in the engine room.
