The agent of Manchester United winger Antony has launched a scathing attack on manager Rúben Amorim, blaming him for the player's inconsistent performances. Júnior Pedroso's comments have ignited a war of words between the player's camp and the club.
Júnior Pedroso has accused Amorim of not giving Antony enough opportunities to showcase his talent. "We respect Ruben Amorim's opinion, but we completely disagree with his point of view," Pedroso stated. "Attributing Antony's lack of success at Manchester United to a physical factor is a superficial analysis that does not correspond to reality. The truth is that Antony has not been given enough confidence to play his best football."
Pedroso provided statistics to back up his claims. "Of the 15 games Amorim has been in charge of Manchester United, he has only used Antony in 9 of them, for a total of 252 minutes played," he revealed. "This represents only 18.6% of the total possible minutes. How can a sportsman be judged under these conditions?"
Pedroso also took aim at Amorim's comments about La Liga. "Perhaps it was not his intention, but his statement devalues La Liga when Spanish football has one of the most competitive leagues in the world, with teams constantly participating in the final stages of the Champions League and the Europa League," he said.
Pedroso highlighted Antony's improved form since joining Real Betis on loan. "The reality is that Antony, since arriving at Real Betis, has become one of the best players in the team and the competition itself, showing his full potential when given the right conditions to develop his football," he stated.
"This shows that the problem was not physical, but was related to the context and treatment he received in Manchester," Pedroso argued. "Many players who fail at United succeed at other clubs, which raises the question of whether the problem really lies with the players."
Manchester United fans have reacted to Pedroso's comments with divided opinions. Some agree with his assessment, while others believe that Antony has not performed to the required standard.
Pedroso's comments could strain the relationship between Antony and Amorim. It remains to be seen how this will affect the player's future at the club.
Pedroso's comments reflect the frustration of a player who feels he has not been given a fair chance to prove himself. It remains to be seen whether this will lead to a change in Antony's fortunes at Manchester United.
