Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has addressed the future of left-back Tyrell Malacia amidst speculation linking the Dutchman with a loan move to Benfica. The Portuguese coach has admitted that the young defender has struggled to adapt to his system and that a loan move could be a possibility.
Speaking to the media, Amorim said, "A loan for Malacia? We'll see. What I know is that it's very tough for him after a long period without playing. A player like him is a full-back and, sometimes, in this system, it's complicated for him. It's a difficult context for him, but he's our player and we're going to help him."
Malacia joined Manchester United from Feyenoord last summer but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Amorim. The Portuguese coach has often opted for a three-at-the-back system, which has limited opportunities for the left-back.
The Portuguese giants Benfica have expressed interest in signing Malacia on loan for the remainder of the season. The move would reunite the defender with his former manager, Roger Schmidt, who worked with Malacia during his time at PSV Eindhoven.
It remains to be seen whether Malacia will leave Manchester United on loan. A move to Benfica could provide the young defender with the opportunity to play regular first-team football and develop his game. However, Amorim has insisted that the club will do everything they can to help Malacia succeed at Old Trafford.
