Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has heaped praise on Alejandro Garnacho, highlighting the winger's significant improvement since being omitted from the squad for the Manchester derby.

Speaking ahead of the club's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, Amorim revealed that Garnacho has undergone a transformation since being left out of the squad for the derby against Manchester City in December.

"He changed right away since that game against Manchester City," Amorim said. "The way he understands things and understands that I just want to help him, I just want to win games. He changed in everything - the approach when I talk to him, the way he recovers. He understands that sometimes I am a different coach, that I am demanding in my way and sometimes it's hard. He understands that it is never in a bad way, it's always for him. I think all the merit is for Garnacho. He is improving and we want to continue to improve with Garnacho."

Garnacho's absence from the derby

Garnacho's omission from the derby squad was a surprise to many, but Amorim believes that it has had a positive impact on the young winger. "It was a tough decision, but I believe it was the right one," said Amorim. "Garnacho needed a wake-up call, and I think he has responded in the right way."

The Argentine winger has since returned to the first team and has been involved in a number of impressive performances. His recent form has led to speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford, but Amorim is keen to keep hold of the young talent.
