Manchester United are reportedly considering selling striker Rasmus Højlund this summer if a suitable offer arrives. The Danish international has struggled to live up to expectations since his move to Old Trafford and the club may look to recoup some of their investment.
Højlund joined Manchester United from Atalanta last summer with high hopes, but has failed to consistently find the net. Comparisons to Erling Haaland were inevitable given his age and potential, but the Dane has been unable to replicate the Norwegian's goalscoring exploits.
With the club looking to strengthen in other areas of the pitch, selling Højlund could provide the necessary funds. Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus have been linked with a move for the striker, while there is also interest from clubs in the Bundesliga.
Since his arrival at Old Trafford, Højlund has struggled to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League. Injuries have also hampered his progress, limiting his playing time. Despite his obvious talent, the Danish striker has been unable to produce the consistent performances that were expected of him.
Selling Højlund would be a difficult decision for Manchester United. The club invested a significant amount of money in the young striker and will be hoping to recoup as much of that fee as possible. However, with the player struggling to make an impact, it may be in the best interests of both the club and the player to move on.
If Højlund does leave Manchester United, he will have a number of suitors in Europe. Serie A has been mentioned as a possible destination, with AC Milan and Juventus both keen to strengthen their attacking options. The Bundesliga is also an option, with several clubs on the lookout for a young, talented striker.
Højlund's struggles serve as a reminder that not every young player can live up to the hype. The transfer market is a risky business, and even the biggest clubs in the world make mistakes. Manchester United will need to learn from this experience and be more careful in their future transfer dealings.
